Who is eligible for hospice?
Hospice cares for people who have a life-limiting illness with a life expectancy of 6 months or less and have chosen to focus on comfort care over treatment.
Diagnoses commonly associated with hospital care include these and other terminal diseases:
- Heart disease
- Respiratory disease
- AIDS/ HIV
- Alzheimer's and Dementia
- Neurological diseases
- Liver and renal failure
- Stroke or coma
- Cancer
Eligibility criteria includes frequent hospitalizations, progressive weight loss, deteriorating mental abilities, frequent infections and an overall decline in condition.
